Biarritz to Barcelona.... The plan today was all to meet at the Ibis hotel near the airport and head off in convoy to Barcelona. Well made plans of mice and men......It started well when we all turned up at the hotel. A few were late due to some skullduggery, to which I might add had nothing to do with....honest...scouts honour...well...maybe a little bit. The organiser couldn't get his car out of his hotel car park because it somehow managed to get jammed in between a post and a wall...if you ask me that was some fancy parking. Some cars arrived with some bits missing...window wipers and doors!! A white scenic also had the contents of a bin superglued on the panels. A few cars had also got themselves some big super soaker water guns and thought it was fun soaking everyone as they drove by. Remember windows and sunroofs are open as bangers don't have air con. Good grief, some didn't even have windows! What they never thought about that fire engines normally have the ability to produce lots of water....that included us. It didn't take long for us to get the stored pressure fire extinguishers that we brought along into play. They were for safety purposes and we did actually think that there was a fire....honest... The fire extinguishers needless to say helped us to be left alone.... Anyway..off we went heading for Barcelona. The first roundabout saw 20 cars continually going round and round until someone made the decision on which way to turn. Much to the relief of the local residents where the shout was "Sacre Bleu" and I' sure someone called me a "petit merd"! Just as well I didn't know what they meant. Our journey took us through the lower Pyrenees which in some parts was very steep (see below). I don't know how he managed it but Big Kev managed to squeeze his butt through the sunroof and took a couple of photo's as we drove. On route a few cars had some minor altercations due to the busy traffic on these roads over here...bumpers fell off and the Ford Escort 44 lost its headlights! After the first 100 miles everyone got seperated as we all needed fuel, water and food at different times. We passed a few bangers on route and we were also passed. The Volvo has coped with no other troubles so far, fingers crossed. Some pics of the journey below. When we arrived in Barcelona we were one of the earlier arrivals and there was also a vintage car club just finishing a meet here. Some lovely cars were leaving and to say that the Volvo blended in well......future classic that. Off for some dinner now and a couple of sherbets........ Mileage now 138,878 Gallery
