Calais to Tours The rally started this morning, Friday, 7th, at 9am. In total there was 33 "bangers" of all shapes and sizes. From old mini metro's to a plethera of old Jags and Volvo's, which seem like a popular choice. Everything from home made Jaguar convertibles, a hairy Senetor, a hearse! I think everyones efforts were appreciated by all. By 9.30am we had all been processed with our task and sent on our way. The task was to collect, by any means possible, menus with special points for 3 course, wine lists and language's. We decided to hit the local shopping centre before we hit the road. What a place....massive. We ended up with tons of menu's. One observation, the French aren't very good at thier own language! they couldn't understand what I was saying! Later we met up with Team 007 where we programmed the trusty Sat Navs and set off with the 007 boys in the lead. After they missed 2 turnings we decided to take over the lead. I think they attached the Tom Tom upside down on the windscreen as they were heading towards Belguim? Needless to say we parted company and we headed south. After a few frantic calls on the mobile they decided to reprogram the Tom Tom and get on the right track. Disaster struck at around 11am when we had a catastrophic failure......the stereo packed in... The decision was made to divert into Reuon and find a Halfords. On arrival at "le Halfords" at 12.28am we found out that they stop for lunch until 2pm!! My kinda place, a 2 hour lunch break. We decided to carry on and get a radio fitted in Le Mans. Whilst in "Le Halfords" the 007 team decided to call us and tell us that they were havng car trouble and that the BMW was only firing on 4 cylinders, so in the spirit of things we decided to get them a set of spark plugs to the tune of 31 Euro. It was a wind up.....the car was fine. 4 hours later(yup 4 hours to fit a radio) we were back on the road arriving at the hotel in Tours to find out that Team 007 arrived before us and won the challenge! 100 Euro and a trophy. Drinks on the 007 guys tonight. Everyone made it to Tours without too many problems although a few teams cars are struggling with the heat. Especially the ones that are leaking oil. Mileage now....138,088 Gallery
